Heh. I was reading Howard Richler's "Speaking of Language" column where he mentioned, in passing, that the original meaning of a "boor" was "dweller, husbandman, rustic," in the way it derived from the Dutch word for farmer, "boer". So BOER means "neighbour," or more precisely "nearby farmer." Interesting to know, don't you think?
