a new park

There is a new park in Lenoir City. It's been there about two years, but I got there for the first time today, so I can call it new. It consists of about a mile of 8 ft. wide paved walkway that winds through a forest right in the middle of town. The reason it has stayed a forest is that it's the flood plain of Town Creek, a tributary of the Tennessee River. There is a steel foot bridge that crosses the creek and the walkway is lined with old-fashioned looking street lamps and a couple of dozen benches. It has all been very well landscaped, and if you look closely you can find the ruins of a stone dam that was built there about 100 years ago to power a grist mill. Next time you pass through here, stop for some exercise.
