We have had a lot of rain in July and with that comes mosquitoes. They are the worst I have ever seen. We have the tree-hole variety, the Asian tiger stripped mosquito and who knows how many other varieties. We hear stories about West Nile Virus and all the other plagues that are carried by mosquitoes. If I walked outside right now and stood still for three minutes, I would have dozens of bites. So I'm staying inside all I can, which means no exercise, and I'm getting fat. I suppose fat is better than infected with deadly virus.

This brings me to the question that I have been leading up to all this time. Why isn't anybody doing anything about it? We need new, powerful means of controlling mosquitoes. Not poisons. They only work for a short while. We need enviromental controls. I hear that wasps and bluebirds and dragon flies eat mosquitoes. I know that there are certain plants that discourage them. Dumping stagnant water out of old tires and cleaning gutters help, but we need something better. Do we have to have an epidemic before we do something? Where are all the researchers? Let's get on top of this situation.
