Sometimes they say the old coot is "as drunk as a coot." If you have ever seen a coot try to walk, you will understand. No wonder they spend so much time flying and swimming.

I also like "drunk as a bicycle," and "Drunk as a skunk." I suppose the latter means "Stinkin' drunk."
