My parents were queasy about my time spent in RinkChat, though they trusted me not to elope or anything like that. (Little did they know what was happening at the time :) The generation and technology difference turned out to be the main problem. I told them to imagine picking up the phone and having the same people there night after night. That did the trick, and they understood that you are all real people, even if the medium used to communicate eliminates almost all normal interaction.
