Just to clear something up here - you are using "SI" to mean "imperial measures", yes? I needed to read this post twice before I worked that out and it made sense.

"SI" is the french acronym for the "International Scientific" measurement system, more commonly known as the "metric" system (Or is a superset of the metric system. Or something along those lines).

As the main advantage I can see of the SI system is that it cuts down on possible ambiguity (pop quiz: which weighs more - a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?), it would help if I could unambiguously tell which measurement system you bwere arguing in favour of.
