Based on what you've said, I assume that you're at a very early stage, and the best thing I could suggest at that level would be private tutoring from someone who knows what they're doing and has some good tutoring experience (i.e. being able to pick up on your problems whether or not you describe them well and being able to help you based on what they pick up). I used to do a fair bit of tutoring myself, and I would be willing to tutor you to the limits of my knowledge, but that, of course, would assume a fair bit of time chatting or emailing back and forth. Anyway, take a good look at the links gremlinn posted and the rough synopsis by Matthew, but if those are beyond your current level, try to track down a good tutor.

There are tutors at the college I'm taking the summer class from, but they're not available any time close to my class so I'd have to spend all my time driving back and forth from the college. I don't want you to spend all *your* time explaining stuff to me, but thanks so much for your offer, Monkeyman! I've looked at some of the links and they seem to be helping more than what I was able to find earlier, and I'm also going to read the rest of the replies in greater detail when I study later. And... my friend's coming over next week to take me to see Carbon Leaf (!!!) and he's a math genius, and I realized he could help me before my test. He's been good about explaining stuff to me before in a way I can understand even when I'm not very coherent. :-)
