Actually, from the size of the hive it must have been there for about four-five weeks. They finally reached a critical mass of activity which drew attention. Before then, it was simply well-camouflaged in plain sight. Weird.

I took a picture of my hornet's nest as the sun was going down. The nest itself is grey ;)

When I showed this to my sister, she wanted to enter it into a photocompo. It can't be THAT good. Murf, I have an intuitive idea about aesthetics -- but it's unclear whether such a composition is actually strong or weak.
