Till then, when empirical evidence aligns with your presuppositions, you don't go changing them around for nothing.

I don't know enough about the country, but I think it might be relevant here--I'll just toss the name out and let someone with more time and knowledge maybe fill in the details. The nation I am thinking of is Singapore.
