I was named after my father. Exactly. So I sign my name with a "Jr." on the end of it. We chose not to name Jonathan exactly after me (he has the same middle and last names, but his first name is "Jonathan," not "John") because we didn't want him to have to sign his name with the appelation "the third" or "III."

Are you then "Samuel Stoddard VIII," or are you simply the eighth person in a row to have the first name Samuel?
