Anyone else ever hear of Mike The Headless Chicken? A farmer in the early 20th century chopped the head off a rooster. The rooster ran around the farmyard, the way chickens are notorious for doing after getting their heads chopped off.

But Mike didn't stop running. He got himself together after his shock, and resumed his chicken lifestyle. He walked around, made pecking motions, and so on. The farmer was flabbergasted, but found a way to cash in by touring the country with his headless chicken. He kept the animal alive by stuffing food down the neck.

The chicken lived for a while, until it died by asphyxiation from an obstruction in it's neck. True story---he has his own website.

So did Mike have a soul? Did it reside in his gizzard, still living the fullest life available to a rooster? Who knows?
