Disney's private island.

When Disney went into the cruise ship business, they bought a 36 acre island in the Bahamas. The island probably formed about a million years ago when three or more parallel reefs rose about 3 or 4 meters out of the sea and sand filled in the spaces in between. When Disney got there, it had an old airstrip with two ancient (1930's) twin-engine airplanes. There were a few roads and a small-boat harbor. There might have been a few old buildings, but you know how good the Disney people are at making a new building look old.
They improved and deepened the harbor so that now a cruise ship can pull up to a concrete pier within walking distance of the beach. They added picnic shelters, food service, dive shop, bicycle and jet ski rentals, a tram, restrooms and bath houses and great landscaping. There are several beaches including an adults only beach. Don't read anything into that. It just means that you can go swimming without tripping over kids.
We got in about two hours on the island between tropical downpours. Then I went back to the ship and got a good afternoon nap. The reason I needed that, was that we had been told that there would be a shuttle launch about the time we got back to the cape, and I wanted to get up early. I was up by 5:00 am the next day, but no shuttle launch. I still don't know what happened. I guess it was scrubbed.
