It's time for an update. It's overdue; it has been over two months since my last post to this thread.

I've had several more interviews in the past two months. None of them has panned out yet, but I had my most encouraging meeting to date this morning.

This was the second interview with a local retailer that has a design position open in their advertising department. It's not the most exciting job; it would involve mainly doing catalog layouts and newspaper ads. It would, however, involve some art directing responsibility; they have an in-house digital photo studio where they shoot all their product images; the designers are responsible for telling the studio what shots they need. If I get this job it will be good experience to add to my resume.

The interview was encouraging simply because the interviewer was so enthusiastic about my portfolio. Everyone says "I like your work," but in most cases that's just being polite. This woman was visibly interested in getting me for the position and went so far as to tell me that I am (one of) the strongest candidates for the job. That's good to hear when you've been out of work for almost four months. Even if someone else ends up getting picked, I've at least had a confidence booster.

In the meantime, I've started work on a new website to promote myself as a freelance designer. It's in the very beginning stages; all I've really done so far is thumbnail sketches, but when I finally get the site up and public, my RinkFriends will be among the first to know about it!
