I think Romans 10:9 states it very clearly:

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

And again in 10:13:

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

It's that simple; there is no exhaustive list of requirements that one must follow/beleive in order to become "a true eternal live-receiving believer." That's why even a very little child can understand and be a true believer.

Yes, you have to understand that you're a sinner. Yes, you have to understand that Christ is the only valid payment for those sins. But the bottom line is, all you must do is believe in Christ and call upon him to save you. You don't have to reform your life first; you don't have to work for it. God begins working those things in your life afterwards.
