It was a tradition at my high school to give a "gift" to the assistant principal during the graduation ceremony-- but it had to either be an unusual gift, or the gift had to be given in a very unusual way.

The gift(s) is always given to him by *every* student. The assistant principal is the person who physically hands each graduate their diploma as they cross the stage, and each graduate would give him their gift in exchange for their diploma.

One year, each student gave him an egg. Hard-boiled or raw, I'm not sure, but his pockets were all bulging by the end.

Another year, each student presented him with a roll of pennies. I imagine he made out pretty good, as his gift would have been worth at least $50 or more... but his pants were sagging nearly to the floor by the end.

My class was a little kinder to him. The first student up handed him a jean jacket and instructed him to put it on over his suit coat. Then each student after that pinned a button somewhere on the jacket. He had hundreds of buttons on him by the time the last student crossed the stage.

Some studnets always come up with their own gags as well. I recall one prankster whipping a camera from beneath his robes and snapping a photo of himself with a big cheesy grin against the backdrop of his class. A particularly athletic young lady did a gymnastic maneuver across the stage, a cartwheel or backflip, I can't remember which. (She was wearing a leotard or something appropriate beneath her robes and dress for modesty.)
