Yes, you do remember them. This happened to me 18 years ago:

I was in between "real" jobs and was, in the meantime, working as a retail clerk to pay the bills. I was also two days away from getting married and was going to be meeting my fiance's family--parents, siblings, grandma--a whole *herd* of relatives
--for the first time ever. They were flying in from the east coast that evening. I was rather more shy then than I am now, and was overwhelmed at having to meet them all at once and worried that I wouldn't make a good impression. I guess I didn't hide my anxiety very well on the job, because that day, after waiting on one customer, kind of an old guy, he said to me (not unkindly), "Well what's wrong with you?" I surprised myself by blurting out, "I have to meet my in-laws today for the very first time and I'm terribly nervous".
I think it startled him a bit too, because he didn't say anything for a long moment. He turned away from the counter and took a couple steps, before he stopped, half-turned and offered me this advice: "You just let them know who's the boss".

Not only did it make me laugh, but the whole idea delighted me, gave me an entirely different perspective on the whole thing, and relieved quite a bit of tension I was putting myself under.

By the way, the in-laws have turned out to be nothing less than a gift from God. From day one they have loved & treated me like their own daughter ...so I worried for nothing. :-)
