YES! Videos of the greatest, most appallingly awful Japanese TV series EVER have been released for sale! I refer of course to "Monkey".
I've mentioned this series on the forum before, way back, but talking about it in chat the other day reminded me to go looking for it online. It hasn't screened here since I was about Liface's age, so I have a *lot* of nostalgia to get through once my first video arrives.
Apparently it's not known in the USA (oh, the tragedy), so perhaps some of you might get an insight from these great lines. The whole series was dubbed, and badly, so in addition to the intrinsic glory of the words, imagine them in a horrendous fake English-Japanese accent.
Monkey: "All right! Let battle commence! Wine and bananas! Bring on the dancing girls!"
Another great line from Monkey: "Please excuse me when I say that you really are extraordinarily dim."
Tripitaka: "You should live without fear. There's as much chance of good things as bad things." Sandy: "It's a cheerful philosophy and I've heard it from people before. They're all dead now, though."
Monkey: "And where shall I find him, this King Youth?" Earth god: "He has a huge semi-detached palace at Black Pine Ridge."
This was quite a long-running series and EVERY SINGLE EPISODE consisted ENTIRELY of lines like that. Here are some of the cooler episode titles:
Catfish, saint and the shape changer; Monkey meets the demon digger; The most monstrous monster; Truth and the grey gloves devil; Astonishing coincidences; Monkey swallows the universe; Monkey goes wild about Heaven; The difference between night and day; Even monsters can be people; Vampire Master; The minx and the slug.
Please excuse me when I say that you really do have to consider this the ultimate TV series of all time.
