Who would've thought that Michael Waltrip would win??

I did. I picked Waltrip even before Jeff Hammond did. I doubt that we were the only two to do so.
Waltrip has long been at the top of a list of people who, given the right equipment, would be a winner. On Sunday, for the first time in his career, he started the race with a car that was capable of winning. It was not the fastest car on the track, but very fast. Sterling Marlin and Kenny Schrader were both slightly faster and a number of other cars were equal. But NASCAR fans have learned that the race doesn't always go to the fastest car.

It's unfortunate that car-owner Earnhardt, became pre-occupied with the race between his two cars, one driven by his son. This pre-occupation was likely a contributing factor in his wreck. Earnhardt knew that Marlin would win if he tried to pass Dale, Jr. and Waltrip. If the senior Earnhardt wanted to win, he would have dropped down in front of Marlin and passed on the low side. But Kenny Shrader would have fallen in behind Marlin and as soon as the two lead cars were passed, they would have drafter past Dale, Sr. The finish would have been Marlin, Shrader, Earnhardt Sr., Waltrip, Earnhardt, Jr.
He couldn't let that happen, so he chose to put Marlin and Shrader into a three wide situation instead of three in a row. What happened next was nobody's fault. Just a racing accident.
