Man, is that EVER true. Almost all of the best story ideas I've *ever* had started off as what I affectionately refer to as "5 a.m. brainfarts". I often tend, at varying hours, to experience a state of semi-consciousness where I'm still dreaming, but on some level I'm half-awake, so the outer world is seeping into my dreams, I'm more in control of what's going on, and as a direct result of this these dreams are usually more bizarre than my normal ones. They're also an amazing source of inspiration, as the story ideas which have surfaced from them have always been strong ones.
