But if you write it like "science fiction", then that would mean that you write the other genres like "western", "romance", "mystery", etc., without the capitals. And that seems strange to me.

I get annoyed when some people don't think Science Fiction (both times capitalized, ha!) isn't a REAL genre. Admittedly that some Science Fiction (both time capitalized) is silly and not worth the collective population's time, but the same could be said for other genres.

Conclusion: The names of all genres will start with a capital letter, and if there's more than one word, each word with start with a capital letter. At least I'll write them that way. And I shall call it Science Fiction among people who don't get it, Sci-Fi among people who get it but aren't into it, and SF among people who are into it like I am.

PS: SF could also stand for "Social Fruitbat" or "Squishy Football" or "Sardonic Flamingo"
