Which is worse?

( ) Open, empty pistachios

( ) Closed pistachios


Open pistachios are annoying because they don't contain the nut you want, so you paid for an empty shell (if the nut isn't somewhere else in the bag, that is).

Closed pistachios are annoying because, without a nutcracker, they're extremely difficult to get at, and even if you risk your teeth and break the shell between your jaws, the nut you get out from it has no salt on it. So you end up throwing the whole thing away, having paid for both nut and shell you don't get to eat.

In both cases, if it's the salty taste you crave, you can lick the salt of the outside of the shell. But with an open shell, you know from the start that's all you're going to get from it. With a closed nut, on the other hand, you're still left with the frustration of not getting to the nut within.

My conclusion: Closed pistachios are worse.
