One thing to think about, though, is that touch is a many parted thing. You have different types of nerves for detecting temperature, pain, pressure, etc.

Also, if my memory serves me correct (memory is the sense I'd give up, I suppose, as mine's pretty much deteriorated by now anyway), most of the five senses are basically mutant forms of touch. Taste and smell are basically the same sense in different face-holes, and they're special forms of touch (I don't remember the physiology exactly). Hearing is where you feel the vibration of your eardrums. I don't know if seeing is also a form of touch because I haven't even seen my old anatomy book in about two hundred years.
