I first started out with deleting the entire last message. I think it's somewhat redundant to leave the whole thing when the original post is easly accessable. However, as I became more familiar with things, I realized that sometimes in long threads it can get slightly confusing as to who is responding to what without quoting. Therefore, I personally favor quoting portions of the message when necesssary. Writing in the middle of a message is great when a post is long and you want to respond to pieces of it at a time.
