Would this professor be Liz Applegate, the woman who has completed the Ironman in Hawaii several times and can do 100 pull-ups? I remember her saying, "I'm not sure what good that does me, but I suppose if someone threw me out a window, I could grab onto the ledge and pull myself back in."
