Still doesn't work. We aren't Canada, but once New Hampshire gets snowfall, it stays all winter. There were 8 or so inches on the ground (and 3-4 foot banks) *before* this 20 inch storm. :-) Nope, the only explanation is my happy eccentricity.

Point taken. I'm aware of the driving techniques that make ice driving better, but in keeping when your first rule about driving on ice ("don't"), my point was just that abstinence is the only sure policy. More than once I've lost control of the car on ice, in spite of doing all the proper ice driving things. Once I drove down a road and, without discernibly turning, braking, or accelerating, went into a slide that had me drifting for a good 100-200 yards, completely at the mercy of physics. The car ahead of me had fallen into the same sort of slide, and so did the car behind me. Fortunately we didn't collide. If it's slippery enough, the direction of your wheels sometimes doesn't even matter. Thank heaven there were snowbanks and not ditches by the side of that road.
