I *prefer* self-service. Most of the petrol stations in NZ are full-service, but I like being able to just zoom in, fill it up, run into the building and pay, and run back out and zoom off again.
I know the *real* reason why I've got into the habit of avoiding the helpful throngs of window-washing, oil-and-water-checking pump attendants. It's because, if they get to the pump first and start filling up my car for me, I don't know what to *do*. It feels awkward just standing around waiting, and I'm not good at small talk.
