Did your parents ever tell you that cheese is actually moldy, smelly curdled milk, several months or even years past its prime? Or, have you ever listened to Alton Brown explain that the reason why popcorn 'pops' is that the kernel has to explode through a hard layer called... a "horny endosperm"?

And if I told you that vermicelli actually means 'little worms,' would that make the name cuter? :-)
