Frustrations at Work

I considered posting this under Darien's "Slings and Arrows" thread, but it is pretty different, so it gets its own thread.

I think my biggest frustration at work is lack of praise. Granted, I have not been doing very well lately, and there have been some problems with my work, but I pretty much never get praised for the things I do right. This, of course, reduces my morale, makes me not want to be at work (why work when everything you do is wrong?), and generally lowers my productivity. It easily becomes a viscious cycle. I think the worst part is that I don't even really want /praise/ for my good work, so much as acknowledgement of it. The things I do properly are rarely even mentioned, so all I hear about is all the things I have done wrong. In fact, yesterday, my boss had been looking through some stuff I had done and told me that my choices for start rates were "reasonable", and I felt exhilerated by the "praise". Seeing how little it takes to get me exhilerated makes me think something is not right.

I just realized I have nothing else useful to say on the subject, so I open the floor to your comments.
