One little-known fact that is little-known outside of New England, but is commonly common knowledge to knowledgable New Englanders is that Boston was originally an island, surrounded by water. They had the Back Bay on one side and a front bay, which was called the harbor, on the other side. They liked the Back Bay so well they filled it in and built streets and buildings on it. So if you ever go east, or west if you are in Old England, to Boston and you find a bay with streets and buildings on it, you are in, or maybe on, the Back Bay. I think they filled it in because it was infested with mosquitoes, but now all you have to worry about there is muggers. This is progress. Howard
