What I don't understand about people like that guy is that they'd rather lie about who and what they are just to "score", rather than be honest and maybe have a chance to spend a lifetime with that beautiful woman.

No matter how little you think of yourself, you'd only make it worse by lying and trying to pretend you're someone else -- because you'd then make *others* think little of you too.
