Do you mean other cashiers and produce managers would ask you... or was it people in general.

If it's "in general," well, I can say that instantly giving codes for wildly exotic fruits & vegetables is just a cool and godlike thing to do, that's all. (I don't know that many UPCs personally... I just think it rules.) On the other hand, having to learn UPC codes for stuff like Toilet Duck and Dristan Nasal Mist is menial and does not rule at all.

Loblaws, which is a popular Ontario grocery chain now in Quebec, has a handy database catalogue available on-screen... at each cashier checkout. It shows photos of all the items they ever carry in stock. I was thrilled to see that they carry my most favorite vegetable and most favorite fruit ever... 4598: Daikon (Lo Bok) Radish, which looks like a *giant* white carrot having a sweet nutty flavour; and 4302: Kiwano/Horned Melon, which looks like a fluorescent-yellow submarine sandwich with a fleshy texture but it's also covered in huge horned spikes. Yum!
