There's something to be said for good old pen and paper. I've got the stories that we wrote in high school on file, of course, but the real treasure is the original hand-written copy I kept, with the original hand-drawn illustrations. It would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to reproduce that electronically.
As for keeping stuff: I am not a pack rat. And yet I am. What happens is, I keep stuff until my bins, folders, or whatever other storage media you can think of are overflowing and I can't stand the mess anymore. Then I end up going on a purging rampage, getting rid of most of it. Only the true gems survive. Unfortunately, on occasion I have tossed something that I later regretted. But usually, the things I pitch are things that I know I no longer need, never will need, and will soon forget about.
