I'm surprised no one has mentioned who is really at fault here - McDonald's (and all the other fast food places with grocery-style lines).

I have been involved in these types of situations on numerous occasions (I hate cooking so I eat lots of fast food) and each time I wonder why every place doesn't have bank-style lines. My only conclusion is that they are too cheap to incur the cost of installing ropes so that everyone knows to stand in one line.

There are few things that irritate me more than standing in the line that takes the longest. I have a knack for picking them and have almost been tempted to tell people not to get into the line I'm in because it's sure to be the longest. And by no means have the few times I've gotten lucky and picked the short line made up for the irritation of being in the long line.

Maybe other people just aren't as bothered by it as I am, but I honestly think that the world would be a little bit of a better place if every type of business just had one line. It's the fairest system, with the least amount of irritation caused.

I've rambled on long enough, I suppose. It's just that this is actually a subject I feel strongly about, even though it seems kind of trivial (I can hear Snicker C and Snicker D laughing at me now).

Lastly, let me just put in my two cents about each of the characters.

A - most likely made an honest mistake, but should have gone to the back of the line, unless she had already started ordering
B - Had a right to speak up, but should have been more polite
C & D - harmless - at least someone was enjoying the situation
E - Probably handled the situation as well as could be expected, considering how rude G was. He could have made the situation much worse if he decided to have the same attitude as G
F - seems to be an innocent bystander, though he and E should be faulted for not paying attention to the line structure
G - had every right to be very irritated, but definitely should not have used profanity Nd should have been polite when speaking up
H - I (me) probably would have been irritated with H if I had been standing in line, but I would cut H some slack - working in fast food is probably one of the worst jobs to have
I (Sam) - Probably the only person in the situation to actually reflect on it in a meaningful way.
