The Rest of My Vacation

It's New Year's Eve. Or it will be in about four hours. I supposed right now it's actually just the afternoon of December 31st.

We haven't done much. Just sit around the house mostly, and relax. I do have a few stories to tell, though.

Thursday, my wife and her mom went shopping all day while I stayed home with the baby. He slept almost the whole time they were gone, so I didn't have to do much. I watched "The Matrix" again that afternoon. That evening we didn't go anywhere.

Friday was another easygoing day. We went out and did some errands, and otherwise relaxed about the house. Friday night we went out to eat at a Cracker Barrel in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, and afterwards drove down to Woburn to see an old friend of my MIL's who also happenes to be the mother of my wife's cousin. It was a short, but good visit. Jonathan preferred playing with their fake fruit over the toys she got out, and actually bit a chunk off of a fake carrot. (The term "bit" is debatable, since he doens't have teeth yet...maybe "gummed" is more appropriate.) Friday night, I stayed up very very late on my MIL's computer.

Saturday I slept in until 10:30, and then got up and took care of Jonathan. He STOOD, ON HIS OWN without holding on to ANYTHING, for the first time today!!! It was only for a second or two and then he plopped back onto his bottom, but I was very impressed and made sure he knew it! The Big Storm that the meterologists had been predicting all week hit today. It started snowing around 2:00 here, and continued into the night. I shovelled the driveway twice, and the second time had to clear about 6-7 inches of snow off of the rental car. In between shovellings we played a game of Rummykube, and I played Scrabble on the computer. We also watched a Muppets tape, "Muppet Classic Theater." My wife made yummy chicken stuff for dinner.

Today is Sunday. The alarm was set for 8:00 AM, but when I got up and looked out the window, I said "lets go back to bed." FInally got up at 10:00, and my MIL persuaded my wife to go to her church with her, which starts much later. I think she wanted to show off her grandson. We both didn't have time to get ready, so I shovelled the driveway again for them, and now am here alone for the time being. They should be back in half and hour or so. We're going up to Litchfield, NH for a familiy reunion type-thing this afternoon, and then tonight we're all coming back here with my brother-in-law to play games and have fun.

Tomorrow, we go home. I'm not looking forward to driving back into Logan Int'l Airport in Boston on New Year's Day after a Monster Snowstorm, but we'll do what must be done.

Well, I hear people coming in the front door downstairs! Must be time to sign off! Happy New Year!
