Last night I lay awake trying to think of who the coyote's Dulcinea was, the inspiration behind his heroic efforts, and could find none....so that may be were my theory breaks down.
However, neither Quixote nor Coyote doubted their abilities and competence, despite numerous setbacks: Coyote always referred to himself as "Super Genius", and Quixote always believed he was a most heroic and honorable knight. Then Coyote would fall off a cliff and turn into an accordian, and Quixote would get the snot beat out of him.
