Yes, Antiqua is one of those places. When earthquakes shake the buildings down, they rebuild on top of the ruins. That way different levels of the walls are of different vintages. Sometimes they use bricks to build on a stone ruin and you can see irregular lines dividing the old and new parts. Some building have clearly been rebuilt several times. Not only is the town in a severe earthquake zone, it is also surrounded by volcanos. At one end of town, there is Agua volcano and at the at the other end is Fiero volcano. Fire and water. They tell me that the crater on top of Aqua is filled with water, but I didn't check that out. It has a Hawaii-like climate -- never to hot and never too cold. The town is full of fountains, and El Mercado is a thriving market for the surrounding area. It's an old town and I hope it never changes. We even liked the food there.
