I don't know so much that the plot is not completely thought out. Personally, I think the game designers figure out what they want to make your character DO first, and then come up with some "story" to explain why your doing it.

I will use Zelda64 as an example, mostly because I am in the middle of playing it these days and frankly, half the things in there have me going "what the heck?!"

So...I imagine that the game designers knocked there heads together and said "Hey, let's give this guy lead boots so he can walk on the bottom of lakes!" So they then come up with a story line that makes it necessary to get those boots.

When you later get to a lake and need to reach the bottom and cannot dive that far, and then LATER get the boots your like "Oh yea, why didn't I think of that...of course I needed lead boots!"

It is at this point that we agree with the game designers twisted logic and loose some sanity. Lead boots?!? WTH? Wouldn't you get stuck in the muck that is at the bottom of almost EVERY LAKE?!? Then you would only drown! No, wait...you have a TUNIC that lets you breath under water (NOT conventional diving gear...but a magic shirt...go figure).

(I could go on about Zelda64 for hours...what an odd game!)

It is no wonder that we arise from hours of game play and cannot figure out how to pour a bowl of cereal ("I pounded the counter with my fist, but no bowl fell down. Turns out for the better, because the cereal box did not appear when I played the 'Song of Pre-Sweeteness' anyway!").

That said, "TMoBH" was a kick! I got bogged down in "FQ" and needed to quit for a while (something about a deadline to meet), so it is surpising I even STARTED TMoBH, let alone finished it. Still have not gotten back to FQ.
