When this happened to me, also back when I was a college-lad, initally I felt the same way you did. The next day, I realized that everything was fine.

It didn't happen at your home; it happened (relatively) far away. Neither of you were injured. That's a lot to be thankful for.

In a year from now, you'll look back on this and remember how utterly stupid the whole car break-in was. And you'll laugh.

(aside:

> We were robbed today. I must say, that is not my favourite thing ever.

"Favourite"? The robbery must've scarred you so much, you've turned British!

end aside)

As you can see by several other replies to this message, you can take solace in knowing that others have suffered from petty theft. I had my car broken into and a radio/cassette player was stolen (I had stupidly left the passenger side window rolled down in my apartment's parking lot).

My friend had a ten-year old car and someone actually broke into the car and stole the brand new $40 Spark-O-Matic radio*. When she went back to the retailer and explained what happened, he laughed. She wound up replacing it with the $16 model.

-Faux "Time heals all wounds" Pas

* for those of you who don't recognize the brand, the forty dollar Spark-O-Matic radio is the top of the line model they make. That's how bad these things are. You'll get better sound quality with two tin cans and some string.
