Not to seem totally ignorant (I always open stupid questions with that phrase), but why does it matter if a third party knows your PSN? Is it used for something?

I seriously doubt that any program could muck around in the CMOS memory without being noticable about it. Not in the DOS environment, anyway, but I suppose Windows does allow for more ease in doing that, since a lot of it is designed to allow the system to do things like that unnoticably.
