I am looking to find out if some things I've heard about the camel spider are true or false. I was told that the camel spider can be as big as a serving plate, they are very fast and can jump 10 feet, and when they bite you it numbs your skin and they begin eating at your flesh. I was also told that they get the name camel spider from attaching themselves to camels and eating their flesh. I have done research on this and can not find one bit of reliable evidence to back this up. From what I have found is that this spider is also referred to as the sun spider and is a solifugids. I read that it got its name camel spider from a hump on its back. I found nothing about this spider feeding on camels. Is this the same spider? From what I gather the sun spider hunts during the daytime hence the name. I was told that that camel spider is nocturnal. I would appreciate any information on this. As it stands now I am choosing to believe that the story about the camel spider that eats human flesh is a myth. Am I wrong?
