"Freedom2Measure" has a most amusing stance, and your agreement with it is an example of your subtle tongue-in-cheek humour at work, eric.
f2m has the right to say as she/he believes, even though she's wrong.

The main point that f2m and you and Grishny bring up -- that the metric system is lacking in a useful unit-length like an INCH and a FOOT, somewhere in size between the centimeter and meter -- is one point that I happen to agree with. Centimeters and millimeters aren't intuitive measures to me, though I have no trouble calculating with them. But as for the rest of the metric system... kilograms, liters, the Celcius scale, and measurements of force in Newtons and Pascals... they make SO much more sense than the old Imperial measures that it's nothing sort of idiotic to retain them. And "forcing SI down people's throats" -- i.e., teaching our children to know metric and love it -- is basically the only way we'll get metric permanently into the North American lifestyle diet.

BTW, where'd Bill Symes' very recent, and more-or-less thoughtful post on "Metric Units vs. Imperial Units" go? I think I know that guy, and his comments were legit for the most post.
