living dangerously

Date: Tuesday, February 1, 2000, at 18:42:07 This is a dangerous thing to do, but I'm going to tell a story about my wife. The other day we were keeping a couple of grandkids. The two-year-old dragged out a set of plastic building blocks in a hard plastic container. (about 8x12x16 inches) Now what does a little guy do with the container when he's through with it? He slung it aimlessly but with great force and popped his grandmother on the jaw. It brought tears to her eyes, to say the least, and then swelled up like an egg. He offered to rub it for her, because that's how she treats a bumped head. He was really upset that she was hurt. The swelling went down by the next day, but then the colors set in. Red, purple, yellow, black and blue -- more or less in that order over a period of about a week. It was still ugly when we visited the relatives in California, and she enjoyed explaining how she had been mugged in Atlanta. The bottom line is that the old girl just can't duck as fast as she used to. No, I didn't make this up to cover wife-abuse. |
