Well, Tyler, I taught a few 6th and 7th grade English classes a few decades ago, but I don't call myself a "grammarian" although I am a gramfatherian. "We humans" would be ok if it was the subject of the sentence, but with "by" right there in front of it, you need the objective "us."
Gosh, I sure did sound scholarly, didn't I! Not bad for a guy who never learned to spell.
