If it's any consolation, it's often considered a "flawed" classic, and "overblown" is an adjective that has been applied to it before. I haven't seen it myself, but I taped a letterboxed version off PBS some time ago. I should watch it. But last night I had more important cinematic works to see: Ice Pirates.

Lawrence of Arabia is the one to see if you want to see a classic David Lean epic. Barring that, Bridge on the River Kwai.
