You need to do some "extra" damage to the chimera after it staggers to the side and allows you to enter the castle. If you check your listing of points earned in chapter 3, you should see:
3 heavily wounding the chimera
You need to do enough damage for the following to be listed immediately after:
1 severely wounding the chimera
If you don't have that extra point yet, just keep at it - the four weapons you have are all you need. Then, again try getting the chimera stuck and you should be able to complete things when you flee to the tower.
