Stuck in Assault on Vampire Island

OK, I'm not that far into the game, I don't think, but I seem to be out of options. I've gone east on the beach to the lighthouse, turned the dials and pressed the button..nothing happened. I've taken the path all the way north to the moated castle; couldn't do anything there. Been to the shack, it's locked and search for a key turned up nothing. And I've been all the way west to the mountains, and have even tried climbing the trees. I have: the matches, the watch, the bucket, the stick of dynamite, and the threatening note.
