From my notes, the problem with OSN is that you keep having to revisit the three main locations in different "stages" of your investigation. So I'm going to take a stab in the dark here.
Go back to Lynnville - specifically, your room at the boarding house. Search the chest of drawers in your room until you find a small item, then rest for the night. Leave the house and get back in time for dinner (about 6 or 7 moves outside will advance the day to dinnertime) and a young lady will be very grateful for your find.
Once she rewards you, go back to Lucky Strike - if the fat guy is still asleep and useless, search through his cabinets and try your hand at cooking outside. The reward he gives you will be useful at the nearby bar.
