Assault on Vampire Island - near the begining

I'm stuck near the start, in fact I don't think I've really made any progress at all. My inventory is:

Box of Matches
Digital Watch
Stick of Dynamite
Crowbar
Sleepy Time Music Box
Threatening Note

All I've done for the past half hour (about six hours of game time) is walk round in circles. I've found the mummy and the gator, but I can't figure out what to do about them. I've also turned on the light in the lighthouse and pointed it at west and north, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Help!
