But Brutus did what he did to save the people of Rome from a dictator, he agonized of the fact that the dictator was his freind, but did what he felt he must do to protect the Republic. Anthony acted on vengance and toward the end a lust for personal power (which history will show lead to his own death) Note that even after he is dead Anthony and Octavius give Brutus a soilder's honor at the end of the play.
