I would say you're getting warmer -- if you just arrived at level one, though, I don't think you're ready to solve the puzzle. It should be quite clear when you reach a certain place. Always check your options. And remember who you're supposed to be.

I am gradually working my way through the game, so I haven't looked at level one for a while. Sorry I can't be more of a help.
